Job Responsibilities: 

Prepares financial statements and budgets.

Prepares and distributes the annual budget.

Understands all of the computerized financial systems used within the Institute.

Serves as a resource person on financial matters and helps departments understand financial reports and prepare budget requests.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements: 

Must have experience working with financial information systems.

Must have a working knowledge of computerized systems, including ledger, fixed assets and accounts payable systems.

Must have personal computer knowledge, including word processing, spreadsheets and database products.

Education and Experience Needed: 

Master’s degree in Business with a concentration in Accounting and the equivalent of one year of full-time accounting experience.

OR

Bachelor’s degree in Business with at least 24 credits in Accounting and the equivalent of two years of full-time accounting experience.

If you're interested in a career in accounting, sign up for an accounting, calculus, business, marketing or economics course during your junior or senior year of high school. 

Get Involved

Ask your guidance counselor about any internship opportunities involving accounting, business or marketing.

Contact a local accounting firm and ask if it would be possible to shadow or interview an accountant.

School clubs that concentrate on math, business, law or leadership (like Math Club, Future Business Leaders of America, Mock Trial and Student Council) can all provide useful experiences.
