So I just got back from Florida!

I had such a great time, we had beautiful weather the whole time. I left yesterday morning and missed the storm by just a couple of hours!

Anyone like John Mayer? he will be in buffalo on Friday. I might get to go back stage!!!! :)

Ok, I'm an Olympics addict.... and this has been a great series of games! I have absolutely loved watching history be made in swimming... Michael with 8 golds, the oldest female swimming medalist...

But there are so many wonderful stories: How about the older German female gymnast? The Jamacian runners?

Carly's Crossing 2008

Today is the Carly's Crossing... over 320 swimmers are taking part and about 20 of them are doing the timed mile swim. WOW!

The event started around 8:30 with an announcment that Carly passed away exactly six years ago today. She made such a difference in the world!

Last year's winner of the event was in the first group of swimmers, Sean and he was also the first out of the water. No times available yet.

Meet Josh

Josh is an upcoming senior at Clarence High School in Clarence, New York and he has been attending the summer research program at Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI). He is working in the Radiation Medicine Department in the laboratory of Iris Wang, PhD, testing the accuracy of CT scanners and what can be done to make them more precise. “In most scanners there is a fifty centimeter field of view,” Josh says, “the inside of that field is extremely accurate and sometimes the outside data we get is not accurate at all. So I’m looking at what we can do to fix that.”

This is necessary because sometimes when a body is being scanned, the cancer may be outside of the field of view and if the correct information is not known for that part of the body, radiation beams can not be sent to treat the cancer. In order to get the best results possible, Josh uses the “Phantom” which is a plastic torso made with the same density as a human body. This allows them to get the most correct information that they can.

Josh considers his parents his heroes in life, “My dad’s always been there for me. As a kid, they always say you won’t want to grow up like your parents but you know you’ll end up just like them. I wouldn’t be disappointed at all to grow up like my parents.”

After this experience is over, Josh will take away with him that ability to accept that things won’t always happen in the way you want them to. “I’ve learned that you won’t always know what’s going to happen, you just have to be open and accept what does.”

I can't believe that summer is almost over and that school will be starting again soon! Im trying to pack as much fun into these last couple weeks as possible. There's the fair, concerts, movies, the beach, horsebackriding so much to do. There's also that dreaded summer homework that I haven't even started yet ... ugh. I always have to remind myself that going back to school is not the equivalent of being on death row... even if it feels like it. O well only two more years of high school until freedom! : ))

Ok, the Olympics are on (love them), the Erie County Fair is going on (wish it didn't rain on Sunday) and I have to get school supplies this week. Where did the summer go? I still have to get to the Drive-In to see a movie, still need to work on the gardens and help with some work around the house. Time just flew by this year!

The Roswell Park report reviews the results of 15 different studies analyzing various aspects of the law, from monitoring air quality, public compliance and attitudes, to economic outcomes in the hospitality industry. The report demonstrates that the air quality of hospitality venues has dramatically improved, compliance with the popular law is excellent, and as predicted, businesses were able to adjust to the new smoking rules without experiencing adverse economic outcomes.

Cancer-stricken Shanteau makes Olympic debut

BEIJING (AP)•Cancer-stricken Eric Shanteau made his Olympic debut Tuesday night, easily advancing out of the 200-meter breaststroke preliminaries just a couple weeks before he will undergo surgery...

Defying conventional medical wisdom, Shanteau decided to put off surgery to compete in the Olympics, but only after being checked repeatedly to make sure the cancer wasn’t spreading and threatening his chances of a full recovery...

The 24-year-old swimmer from Lilburn, Ga., found out he had testicular cancer just weeks before last month’s U.S. trials, where he upset Brendan Hansen to earn a trip to China.

He moved on to the semifinals Wednesday morning, with finals on Thursday morning.

A ten-year study, tracking more than 25,000 students, found that music-making improves test scores. Music-making students got higher marks in standardized tests than those who had no music involvement.

Ok, loving the Olympics... all the sports you only hear about at this time!

Here are some fun facts from Jonathan Goldsmith at the mirror.co.uk. Visit the link to read them all, but these are the ones that surprised me:

* Women were first allowed to compete in the second modern Olympics in 1900.

* The five Olympic rings represent the five major regions of the world • Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe and Oceania, and every national flag in the world includes one of the five colours, which are blue, yellow, black, green, and red.

* Larrisa Latynina a gymnast from the former Soviet Union racked up 18 medals from her time competing in the Olympics. She appeared at the 1956, 1960 and 1964 games, winning a medal in every event she entered.

* At 4ft 5in tiny gymnast Lu Li is the smallest person ever to compete in the games. She won gold in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, where she scored a perfect 10 on the horizontal bars.

* It has only featured once, at the 1900 Paris games. A farmer's wife won the gold medal trimming 17 poodles in two hours.

Only four athletes have won medals in both the Winter and Summer Olympics. They are:

* Eddie Eagan from the US, with a Light Heavyweight Boxing Gold in 1920 and Four-man Bobsleigh Gold in 1932.

* Jacob Tullin Thams winning Ski Jumping Gold in 1924 and 8-metre Yachting Silver in 1936.

* Christa Luding-Rothenburger from East Germany - 1,000m Speed Skating Gold 1000m 1988 and Match Sprint Cycling Silver in 1988.

* Clara Hughes, who won Cycling Bronze in the Individual Road Race and Individual Time Trial in 1996 before landing a 5,000m Speed Skating Bronze in 2002.

I found out that i had cancer when i was only ten years old in 2005. now 3 years later iam now fourteen and in remission but my life still hasn't been normal and in september i enter high school .......
